The Beginner’s Guide to Using an AutoHotkey Script

Keyboard Locker is a small program that handles this job well and takes up few system resources. It was originally a small  AutoHotKey script written by an AutoHotKey forum-goer named  Lexikos. We’ve spruced it up a bit and compiled it so that you don’t need to have AutoHotKey installed. If you do have  AutoHotKey installed, we’ve included the original script in the download so that you can tweak it to your liking.

Download and Run Keyboard Locker

To get started, go ahead and download  Keyboard Locker. Unzip the Keyboard Locker folder wherever you want to keep it on your hard drive. and open the Keyboard Locker folder. You’ll see a number of files inside. These include some icon files and a readme, but the important two files are “KeyboardLocker.exe” and “KeyboardLocker.ahk.”

If you do not have AutoHotKey installed, you’ll need to double-click “KeyboardLocker.exe” to run it. This file is an AutoHotKey script compiled to run as a standalone program, so that you don’t need AutoHotKey to use it.
If you already use AutoHotKey, you can use the “KeyboardLocker.ahk” file instead to run the script directly. The advantage of using the script version is that, if you’re familiar with AutoHotKey, you can edit the script yourself to change the shortcuts for locking and unlocking your keyboard.
When you launch Keyboard Locker, you’ll see a small keyboard icon appear in your notification area. The tool is now ready for use.

To lock your keyboard, press Ctrl+Alt+L. The Keyboard Locker icon changes to indicate that the keyboard is locked.

Almost all keyboard input is now disabled, including function keys, Caps Lock, Num Lock, and most special keys on media keyboards. There are a few key combinations that will still work, such as Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Win+L, but those are extremely unlikely for a paw or tiny hand to hit by accident.
When you want re-enable keyboard input, simply type in the word “unlock.” The Keyboard icon changes back to normal again to show that the keyboard is unlocked.

How to Show Balloon Notification Reminders

By default, Keyboard Locker does not display notifications when you lock or unlock your keyboard. If you’d like to see them, right-click the Keyboard Locker icon in the notification area and choose “Show tray notifications.”

Keyboard Locker will now show notifications when you lock or unlock your keyboard.

If you prefer not seeing notifications, you can also get a reminder of the shortcuts for locking and unlocking your keyboard by hovering your mouse over the Keyboard Locker icon.

Note: On on some PCs we’ve tested running Windows 10, when you unlock your keyboard while notifications are turned on, it sometimes can take several seconds after typing “unlock” for keyboard functionality to return. It will return, though.

How to Add Programs, Files, and Folders to System Startup in Windows

It’s easy enough to run Keyboard Locker when you need it, but you can also have it run automatically when Windows starts by adding it to the Windows startup folder. Hit up our guide on how to add programs, files, and folders to system startup  in Windows for the full instructions.
In short, though, just store your AutoHotKey folder wherever you want. Open the Run dialog by pressing Windows+R, type “shell:startup,” and then click “OK.”

Create a shortcut to the “KeyboardLocker.exe” or “KeyboardLocker.ahk” file—whichever you use—in the Windows startup folder. You can do this by dragging the file to the startup folder with your right mouse button and choosing “Create shortcut here” or by right-clicking anywhere in the startup folder and choosing New > Shortcut from the context menu. Once the shortcut is in place, Keyboard Locker will run automatically when you start Windows.

Khóa bàn fím với fím tắt Empty 3 Ways To Lock Your Keyboard & Mouse And Keep Your Computer Safe From Unwanted Guests

Bài gửi by QaniTri on 10th February 2017, 22:13

Kid-Key-Lock

While generally aimed at keeping your computer safe from kids  (as the name suggests), Kid-Key-Lock can be useful in any number of scenarios.
Using Kid-Key-Lock, you can lock just your left mouse button, just the right button, just the wheel and the left and so on. You can choose any combination you wish. There are also several options for locking the keyboard, such as locking only system combinations (ctrl, alt, win combinations), locking all keys but character keys and so on. This is really handy because it means you can, for example, let someone type something using your keyboard, but do nothing else.

The options are not very fancy, but useful. You can set up passwords you can type at any time (even when the keyboard is locked), which will load the setup or quit the program. These are important, as they are your only way out if you decide to lock all keys and all mouse buttons. Fortunately, Kid-Key-Lock can detect when you start typing your password and remind you what the full password is.

This is a very flexible program and you can tweak it to lock exactly what you want, and only that. Quite useful, even if you don’t have babies or cats!

Toddler Keys  | Mirror

Toddler Keys  is aimed at those who actually have babies or kids (cats and dogs might enjoy it too), by providing entertainment while the computer is locked. It’s not as flexible as Kid-Key-Lock — you can only lock the entire keyboard or both keyboard and mouse — but you can also lock drive doors (worked even on my laptop’s CD drive) and the power button. The power button option only works on Windows XP, unfortunately, so I was unable to test it.ToddlerKeys Makes Your Windows Computer Baby Friendly!  ToddlerKeys Makes Your Windows Computer Baby Friendly! But here comes the fun part: If you lock both keyboard and mouse, the screen turns black, and it reacts to mouse movements and keystrokes by drawing lines and displaying pictures of your choosing. It can even play sounds (WAV files only). This is a great way to keep a kid busy in front of the computer without worrying about him getting into something he shouldn’t. You can stop this mode by typing “quit”, or any other password you set up.

Here you can choose pictures and sounds to be displayed and played while the computer it locked. You can preview the images and play the sounds directly from this window.

Note that if you lock only the keyboard, the program does not enter this mode, so you can still use your mouse to do things, like load and watch a movie, without worrying about your cat stepping all over the keyboard in the middle of it.

KeyFreeze

If the previous two seem to be overly configurable to you, you might like KeyFreeze. KeyFreeze does one thing and one thing only — It locks your keyboard and mouse. When you run KeyFreeze, you get a small window with one button. When you click this button, you get a countdown and everything will lock in 5 seconds.

That’s it. To unlock, you need to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and then Esc. I tried watching a movie with KeyFreeze on, and it worked great. The movie was playing smoothly, and nothing I did with the keyboard or mouse had any effect. Magic!

Conclusion

Be it kids, cats, clueless family and colleagues or just a stray mouse that gets accidentally clicked, locking your keyboard or mouse can prove to be extremely useful. If your kids (or cats) are already older and can actually use the computer, you can check out:
